Joseph “Joe” Sullivan, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away on May 6, 2018 surrounded by the love and support of his family. Joe was born on July 13, 1937 in Boston, MA, the youngest child of Charles and Ana (Grady) Sullivan. He was married to Susan (Barrett) Sullivan from 1961 to 2003. After her death, he was married to Sandra (Riley) Sullivan from 2006 until his death. He grew up in Quincy and Hingham, MA and attended Arch Bishop Williams High School. Joe graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1961 and served in the Navy for over 10 years. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and went to nursing school. Joe became a Certified Nurse Anesthetist and practiced for over 30 years on Cape Cod, MA, Boston, MA, Tallahassee, FL and Ormond Beach, FL where he retired. Joe loved his family and friends and was known by all as a kind and gentle soul. He loved to talk to people and swap funny stories and quickly developed lasting friendships. Joe never met a stranger. He was adored by his grandchildren who called him Bumpa and he was extremely proud of all of them. Joe was also known as “Uncle Joe” by his nieces and nephews whom he loved and cherished. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Riley) Sullivan of Ormond Beach, FL and San Mateo, CA, his son Robert Sullivan (and his wife Cindy) of Cotuit, MA, and his two daughters Rebecca Mello (and her husband Mathew) of Tallahassee, FL and Reghan Taylor (and her husband Rick) of Ormond Beach, FL, grandchildren Brea Kernon, Barrett Kernon, Michael Mello, Justine Sullivan and Ted Dennis. He is also survived by a loving and devoted extended family including his brothers and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan (Barrett) Sullivan, his oldest son, Richard Barrett Sullivan, his brother Charles “Sonny” Sullivan and his sister Mary Ann (Sullivan) Hunter.
