U.S. Veteran

Michael Thomas Staley (Mike), passed away suddenly on December 1, 2017 at the age of 58. Born June 7, 1959 in Clarksville, Tennessee, Mike grew up in Ormond Beach. He attended St. James Episcopal School, Ormond Junior High, and Seabreeze Senior High. Mike followed his father's footsteps into the U.S. Navy where he was an air combat controller. After the Navy, he met his future wife, Kimberly Welch. They were married on September 7, 1991 and have two daughters, Heather and Elizabeth. Mike was a great dad and a loyal supporter, attending the girl's every school activity and sporting event, becoming Heather and Elizabeth's greatest fan. Mike worked in sales and business development for 11 years with Rosetta Technologies and 14 years with ECN, building many lasting friendships. He taught business and marketing at Atlantic High School, finding he truly enjoyed helping young people learn. Embry-Riddle recently hired him as Executive Director of Corporate and Technical Education. Proudly growing older but not up, Mike bought and restored a 1971 VW bus to chauffeur his family and friends about town. He loved morning walks, good music, and always had a book or two handy to read. He was gracious and generous, and went out of his way to help those in need. He is fondly remembered for a great sense of humor and an infectious grin that could put a smile on anyone's face. Lastly and always, he was a dedicated and loving husband and father. Mike is survived by his wife, Kimberly Staley, daughters Heather and Elizabeth, brother Brooke Staley (Pam), sister Anne Reeves, brother Larry Staley (Joann), sister Joanne Riddlebaugh and many loving family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Anne Atkins Staley, Captain Joseph J. Staley (USN), and brothers Joseph and Steven. A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held St. James Episcopal Church, 38 S. Halifax Dr, Ormond Beach, on December 17th, at 2:00pm EST; reception to follow. The family requests donations be made to St. James Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond; 386-673-1100. Condolences may be shared with the family through this online guestbook.
