Obituary:
Charles “Charley” Christman, 60, local businessman and longtime Ormond Beach resident passed away Veteran’s Day, November 11, in Blue Ridge, GA. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00am at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home, 736 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Fl. Internment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park. He was born in Amsterdam, NY and moved to this area in 1953. He was a 1967 graduate of Seabreeze High and continued his education with a degree in Retail Bank Management from the University of Virginia. He spent most of his life in the Volusia County area as a well known businessman and successful banker and retired as an area Vice President from First Union. During that time, he served on various boards and committees such s Optimist International, OBYBA, Boy Scouts of America, St. Brendans Catholic Church, Cold Tail Pipe Society, Council on Aging, Chamber of Commerce of Ormond Beach and Checkered Flag Committee just to name a few. He also served 12 years as a Ormond Beach Reserve Police officer. Charley had a great passion for his family, church, baseball, the outdoors and most of all NASCAR racing. He fulfilled his passion by joining DIS Spotter team where he eventually retired as the Chief Spotter. Charley will always be remembered as an honest, trustworthy man with a sense of humor that is cherished by his many friends and loving family. He was the son of Clark and Suzanne Christman. He is survived by his mother, Suzanne Christman; his wife of 36 years, Molly T. Christman; his son, Mark (wife Renee); daughter, Katy; sisters, Mrs R. Clark (of Longwood, FL) Virginia, and Mrs. G. Dilgren (of Charleston, SC) Linda; cousin, Mme. Carlos Nunez (of France) and Mme. Adrien Brunaud (of France). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles Christman Memorial Fund c/o Floridian Bank, 1696 N Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
