Norma Jean Short, 82, died Sunday, December 13, 2009, at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL. A 1:00 visitation followed by a 2:00 service will be held on Thursday, December 17 at the Daytona Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Norma was born July 9, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Dewain and Kathryn Wooden Shadley. She married Jack Short on February 24, 1945. The couple came to Daytona Beach in 1953. Honoring a longstanding desire to care for others, Norma enrolled in the Daytona Beach Junior College nursing program at age 40, and graduated in 1970. She later obtained special training and certification in ostomy care and became one of the first enterostomal therapists in Florida. During her nursing career which spanned over thirty years, Norma's dedication to patient education and healing improved the lives of countless individuals in central Florida. She was also part owner / operator of Short Medical Equipment in Daytona Beach.
She is survived by her two sons, Doug Short, Myrtle Beach SC and Greg Short, Valdosta GA, and her daughter, Jeannie Short, St. Petersburg FL. Norma had six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
