Peggy Chandler

Nov. 26, 1925 – Nov. 7, 2020

Peggy Earlene Holcombe Chandler was born on November 26, 1925 in the rural town of Startex, South Carolina, to proud parents Charles and Iva Rhodes Holcombe. Peggy was one of eight children, four boys and four girls. As the third oldest, Peggy learned to be responsible and caring at an early age while helping with her younger siblings.  She was known for her intellect and sharp wit.

Peggy was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Greer, SC, for over 45 years. From all her years of church involvement, she memorized many hymns, which she sang up to the moment of her passing.

As the wife of a career military man, Peggy and her three daughters relocated often with each new duty assignment.  They lived in many cities in the US and Europe.  This sparked a lifetime passion for travel.  She was always away on, or planning her next adventure.  Her favorite destination was Alaska on a cruise ship.

Peggy died on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Watson (Mike) of Ormond Beach, FL; a stepson, Truman Chandler (Nola) of Greer, SC; a brother, Hugh Holcombe of Duncan, SC; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Emerson Tucker and Buford Chandler; daughters Maria McNeill and Jean Hutto; brothers, Bobby, Henry, and Carroll Holcombe; three sisters, Amanda Moss, Mary Pettigrew, and Dorothy Tucker; and a granddaughter, Autumn McNeill. Funeral Services will be in Greenville, South Carolina, with burial to follow in Graceland East Memorial Park
